sql server replication:
Are solutions availible for small-med businesses to
establish a standby SQL database that would allow for a
remote located SQL server? The purpose is to create a
fail over for either bandwidth or server failure. Most
clients accessing this server are remotely over Internet.

FOr a hot standby you can use long distance clustering...
For a warm standby you might use log shipping ( cheaper, but requires your
intervention to fail over.)

I haven't done the long distance clustering, so I don't know many of the
details.. Perhaps some else will offer them...
