sql server replication : Initially merging two databases

If you already have different data in the 2 databases, and need to
synchronize it, replication is not really a suitable tool. Have a look at
DataCompare from Redgate (http://www.red-gate.com/SQL_Data_Compare.htm)

This is probably a newbie question but I was wondering if there is a way to
setup the initial snapshot between two databases, that are the exact same
database, and merge the data between the two without losing or overwriting
any data? It seems that "Merge" is the way to go however I either get one of
the DBs overwritten (push or pull) or I get nothing to merge.

Any ideas?
