sql server replication : Slow synchs

One of our customers is having some of the subscriber laptops take over 1/2
hour to synch with the Publisher, even when the volume of changes is less
than 50,000. I watched it once and it seemed to hang for 5 minutes on a
table with only 50 changes to it. Any idea what I can do to try to speed up
the process? Thanks.
We are using SQL 2k on server and MSDE on laptops using Merge replication.

Are you getting any blocking in the system?

Being new to SQL replication, can you explain blocking? Thanks.

Forget my question. I found it explained in BOL. Is there a place to see
where blocking is occurring?

Are you using dynamic join filtering? If you don't know what that means,
filter out your publication and post it here.
