sql server replication:
Hello.

I am needing to basically duplicate a db sitting on a clustered instance
of a sql server. My goal is to create a close copy of a particular db
(basically the most used tables of that db) in order to run reports off
of and free up locking from the original db. I was wanting to have this
db sit on the same instance as the original. I was planning on setting
up this instance now as not just a publisher, but I am guessing it would
have to be a publisher, distributor (that distributes to himself) and a
subscriber for this new offloaded db.

The publisher is a production box that does have access to separate
distribution servers on our network. Would it be best resource wise to
go publisher (this sql instance) to a separate distributor on the
network then back to the sql box as a subscriber Hope that makes sense.
My thinking is that for resource reasons, if you offload the
distribution agents it might help.

Or is there a better way , to where you don't even use replication
Perhaps just some SP that will copy data out of that db to another db?

Suggestions, idea's are much appreciated.

Thanks,
