sql server replication : Merge Replication Web Sync Topology

Hi,

We're creating an app that will use Merge Replication to SQL Server
Everywhere, so we'll be using web synchronization.

Every cycle (twice a month) there will be a lot of new data to be
synchronized, and many subscribers (thousands) trying to get the new
data within the first couple of days. Each subscriber will have his
own filter partition (based on a host_name value).

We're trying to decide between having IIS on the SQL Server or on a
separate server.

Is there a good source of guidance about the pros and cons of these two
options?

Will using two servers give us a big performance benefit for handling
peak synchronization loads?

Thanks in advance.

Also, I'd like to know if it's possible to use IIS on the SQL Server to
load balance with a second IIS server, or can that only be done with
two separate servers?
