sql server replication:
I would like to start the agents every 30 secs as opposed to the current
continuos mode for our SQL 2000 transactional replication setup.

Time and again, we have our log reader and distib agents timing out and then
after 10 attempts they fail and then we have to manually go and start them

I am thinking of running the job every 30 secs but cannot set that in
Enterprise Manager

First I want to know if i am missing anything important by thinking in this
route. Is it better to be in continuous mode for some reason ? We can leave
with a 30 sec additional latency. Other than that, why would i want to be in
continuous mode.

I guess we are trying to just avoid failures due to timeouts and prefer the
jobs to start automatically..

If you do not see any issue, how to start the jobs to run every 30 secs ?

Thanks

I think you need to focus on why the agents are timing out. Have you
determined why this is?

Do you have a remote distributor? If not is your publisher under significant
load? More than 1000 tps almost requires a remote distributor. How stable is
your network?

With the job schedulers you can only restart every minute. You could have
the jobs loop around and on the failure of stop step three go to step 1.
