sql server replication: SQL Server 2000 : Publisher and Subscriber

Our subscriber server crashed. It had 2 transactional subscription

I am rebuilding the subscription.I created these 2 subscriptions using no
sync.

My problem was, When I started distribution agent, I got following error.

"The subscription(s) have been marked inactive and must be reinitialized.
NoSync subscriptions will need to be dropped and recreated."

I deleted both the subscriptions, but distribution agents is still there. My
understanding is, It should also be deleted when there is no subscription.

Can anybody pl help.

They should be.

Look in the following locations for references to these jobs and delete them
there.

MSsubscription_agents on the subscriber. Note the publisher name,
publisher_db, and publication. Evaluate and delete them.

On the distributor, look in MSdistribution_agents. Note the name of the
agent.

You may have to manually delete the job with this name in the
management/jobs folder.
