sql server replication:
How do I / Can I use SQL 2005 Express Edition to subscribe to a SQL 2000
Publication?

I attempted to use Windows Synchronizer to create an Anonymous Merge
Subscription on a Laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium with SQL Server
2005 Express Edition. It 'complained' that SQL 2005 cannot subscribe to SQL
2000.

All older Laptops run Windows XP Pro with MSDERelA and have worked great for
years. We are running an Access XP Runtime Application. (And the won't load
on Vista either!)

Sorry Charlie (appologies to the Tuna) -- MSDE is NOT supported by Windows
Vista. Thanks anyhow.

Similar to what Charles Wang said:
"For merge publications, the version of the Subscriber must not exceed the
version of the Publisher."

Client WILL upgrade their SBS 2003 to full R2, with SQL Server 2005 ...

Hi, Aubrey,
I understand that the Merge Replication failed to be setup between your SQL
Server 2000 publisher and anonymous SQL Server 2005 Express subscriber.
If I have misunderstood, please let me know.

This is by design, for merge replication, the subscriber version number
cannot exceed the publisher version number; however you can create snapshot
or transaction replication from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005 Express.
If merge replication is required in your situation, I recommend that you
upgrade your SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005; otherwise, you may still
need to use MSDE 2000.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to let me
know.

Best regards,
Charles Wang

Hi, Aubrey,
Oh, I am sorry for that I forgot that your OS was Windows Vista.
In this case, you may consider to upgrade your SQL Server 2000 to SQL
Server 2005 or use transactional or snapshot replication.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions or
concerns. It is always my pleasure to be of assistance.

Have a good day!
