Anyone recover from this without re-subscribing?... no changes to the server

history retension: 48 hours... (this is in the distributor properties)-- are
you talking about a different history retension?
subscription retension: 31 days

all subs sync daily--

They both have to be the same. Make history 31 days as well.

ok,

what problems could this cause... unexpected expired subs, or the wierd view
in replication monitor --

also i think it thinks the subs do not exist... (not expired--)

1.jpg is the error message all of a sudden on laptops..
2.jpg is what the repl monitor looks like all of a sudden (T3000 is my
laptop, I subscriped to the same pub after this happened... no problems)
3.jpg is another system running normally--

OK, now i'm in the middle of piecing this back together... I can drop the
sub, & resubscribe...

but in repl monitor those wierd entris remain, I'm considering dropping &
recreating the publication--

What is your history retention setting? This should be equal or greater than
your subscription retention setting.

There is no way to recover without re-initializing or re-subscribing. There
is an option to upload subscriber changes when doing a re-initialization
which will upload any changes which have occurred on the subscriber since
the last sync.

I have no idea. Are they from anonymous subscriptions?
