sql server replication : Reasons behind subscription expiration?

There could be something wrong with the Distributor or Subscriber. If
Distributor or Log Reader agents are not working properly or if there are
problems with your databases then your subscription may be exceeded the
retention period.

Also, check out your Replication Monitor for possible errors.

It will expire if your subscriber has not connected to the publisher within
the history retention time (3 days) or the publication retention time 14
days.

Hi,

I had setup a merge replication. After some days when I checked the
synchronization status it was saying the subscription to the
publication <publication-name> has expired or does not exist.

Can someone point me why any subscription to any publication expire. I
dont remember there is any expiry date option while setting up the
subscription.

Thanks,
Rakesh.

Some food for thoughts.

I can see the subscription from subscriber's ManagementStudio where it
says the subscription to the publication is either expired or does not
exist.

But I can't see that subscription on the publishers' management
studio.

I think this might be due to the expiration of subscription or
something like that.

FYI, When i noticed that data is not being updated at subscriber's
end, i checked the replication monitor, but it was not showing this
subscriber.

Thanks,
Rakesh.

I think you better make your Subscriber subscribed to your publication at
the Publisher from scratch and reinitialize.

It could be, or it could be anonymous or one pulled through an activeX
control or WSM.
