sql server reporting services : Installing RS with SQL Server 2000 for MS-Office Developer Edition

Has anyone figured out whether RS will work in this configuration? I have
gone through all system requirements and ordered SQL Server 2000 Reporting
Services for Developer Edition only, from Microsoft. I still get the error
message "The edition of the report server database is not supported on the
edition of Sql Server 2000 you have chosen". I don't know if I am doing
something wrong or not.

Reporting Services cannot be installed on MSDE. You need either SQL Server
Standard or Enterprise Edition or, for testing purposes and developing
purposes the Developer Edition.

I only need RS for development purposes. How is SQL Server 2000 Developer
available (Visual Studio.Net or as a standalone product)? I am looking for
the least expensive way out, if there is another option.

SQL Server Developer Edition is available as a stand-alone product. Please
have a look at http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/development.asp. You
should be able to get a copy of it for less than $50. It's not free, but
that's pretty inexpensive.
