Reporting Services 2005 can indeed use a SQL Server 2000 relational engine
to store its metadata/objects (i.e. ReportServer / ReportServerTempDB). You
will need a SQL 2000 license for the database and you will need a SQL 2005
license for RS - other than that it will just work.
BTW: if you only use some new features in PowerPoint 2003 and no other
components, you will still need a license for Office 2003.
