sql server reporting services:
Hi Folks,

I'm new to Reporting services and I need advice about whether I can deploy
existing Excel files using Reporting Services 2005.

We have installed SQL Server 2005, Reporting Services 2005, and all the
related components.

We would like to use Reporting Services 2005 to deploy existing Excel
spreadsheets to Reporting Services and use the Scheduling and Emailing
facilities to publish these existing Excel files to customers.

My problem is that I need to know if I can create an RDL file for Reporting
Services to use for an EXISTING Excel file. I'm using the book "Pro SQL
Server 2005
Reporting Services" along with our new installation of these products.

Could some kind soul please tell me if I can even DO this? An if so, how ?

Thanks so much in advance for any help.

Could you perhaps use the Excel file as a source? If you need people just to
pull up Excel, you could code it into a report as a link.

If you just want people to access an Excel file, it seems that it would be best
to just put it in a place where they can get to it and send a link.

I'm not sure what else you're trying to do, but it sounds like you may want to
investigate something other than Reporting Services as well. I know that SSIS
has an e-mail task that could take an expression for an attachment that would
link back to the file name/location.
