Does anyone know if it is possible to specify a distribution group as the
recipient for a subscription? I have been unable to send to a group, however

Yes, you can. You have to use the SMTP name (from Outlook, go to Properties
of the distribution list, click on Email Addresses). If you have a
distribution list like Sales Team, more than likely the name that you'll need
to use within the subscription will be salesteam.
