sql server reporting services: I am attempting to open the SQL 2005 Report Builder on the Reporting
Services 2005 website and my Windows XP SP2 Internet Explorer forces me to
save the link instead of opening it. The link name is
reportbuilder.application. How do I get Internet Explorer to open the link
and launch the Report Builder app?

Report Builder is, in some senses, an application in its own right

You haven't indicated what URL you are accessing. It occurs to me that
you may be downloading an installer. Is that possible?

I'm pretty sure you'll need the 2.0 framework installed on the client since
the report builder is deployed via click once.

The URL is http://reportserver/reports/reportbuilder.application

The file is XML. IE is supposed to read it then open reportbuilder.exe. IE
will not read it on a WinXP SP2 client. It forces you to save it. On a
Windows 2003 Server system it works with no problems.

Yes, in the February CTP you need to have .NET 2.0 installed on the client
machine. For the final RTM release, the click once install should
automatically install the .NET Framework if needed before downloading Report
Builder.

How do you get IE to open the reportbuilder.application XML file instead of
requiring it to be saved to disk?
