sql server reporting services : unmap .SHTML extension breaks Reporting Services

After a security review it was suggested that we unmap the .SHTML ISAPI
filter on the IIS 6 server that hosts our Reporting Services. Unfortunately,
now all we get is the following message when we try to access the Report
Server.

The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote server.

The ISAPI filter was remapped but we continue to get the same error. Does
anyone know how this might be fixed? I was going to uninstall Reporting
Services and reinstall it but that is my last resort.

I found the problem. When the .SHTML ISAPI filter was unmapped the
ReportServer virtual directory execute permissions got set to none rather
then scripts and executables.
