I have run both on a PC I put windows server 2003 on with 768 Meg RAM, a 3
year old PC. It was OK. Currently I am running on a 2 Processor, 2 Gig RAM 1
year old box. The SQL Server database is on the same box in both cases but
in the second case I also have a datamart that is currently about 15 Gig.
Hopefully by the time it is getting to 40 Gig or more I will put the
datamart on another box. Some reports go against the datamart and some
against a Sybase database. Due to stability, security etc Windows Server
2003 is best in my book. SQL Server has to be SQL Server 2000 with SP3a or
greater. Although you can use other browser the Report Manager really only
works 100% in IE (not sure what version but I do know that Firefox does not
work completely). The reports view OK but the toolbar in Report Manager does
not. MS has said they are working to improve this for RS 2005 (release date
is the week of Nov 7th, just announced).
