sql server reporting services:
I have read a bunch of posts here and never really found an answer on how you
export several reports to one excel spreadsheets with multiple worksheets. I
am sure this is possible but I have been unable to find out how to do it.

The Excel rendering extension will create one Excel file per report. You
cannot merge multiple reports into one Excel export file. If the report has
page breaks, it will split it into multiple worksheets.

Thanks Robert that is exactly what I needed.... In 2005 can you dynamically
rename the worksheets or do you know of any workaround (non 2005)?

Sorry, this won't be in RS 2005. It is under consideration for a future
release.

just a follow up question, robert. It seems like a very good 'feature' to
be able to name the worksheets from within Reporting Services. The lack of
this ability is a major issue for us at this shop.

There are two items that have prevented RS from being the complete Crystal
replacement where I work:

1- Multiple select parameter lists. This feature appears in 2005.
2- Being able to name worksheets. This feature does not.

I've seen this item requested numerous times and I'm disappointed that it's
not high enough on the wish list to get worked on. What I find especially
onerous is that for single-worksheet reports the sheet DOES get named so the
renderer, somewhere, knows how to do this. It shouldn't be that big of a
leap to be able to set the sheetname by the value determining the pagebreak.

I'm having to work through a process where we have the report rendered to
Excel and saved on the server, then directly modify the excel object, and
THEN return it to the requester.

I was just searching for the answer to this question and see you are exactly
where I was. Since a single worksheet is named, I assumed that there must be
a way to get my group name to appear as the worksheet name. I guess I need
look no further.

MS, if you are listening, this would be a welcome feature in the next update.

I've seen several places on the Net where different Microsoft reps have said
that the rename feature was under consideration.

Since this is apparently such a widely requested thing, why is it not being
put into a version. It continually is up for being in "the next version".
Why not just put it in?

Not being able to name sheets has prevented migration of reports and to
really sell Reporting Services. My clients don't like change... they're used
to looking at sheetnames and are not fond of the index page. I can't sell my
clients on a server if they don't care for the reports.

Please put this feature in a service pack that RS 2000 can use.

Darren, one thing I believe I've read in the past is sheet names were
dropped due to crashes from international character support in Excel.
