sql server reporting services : Question about subreports

I have lots of graphs and do not use subreports. Remember that you can have
multiple datasets with a report and the queries for the dataset can share
parameters. Subreports are best when you have a 1:M relationship. Create a
report with the appropriate parameters. Test it. Drag and drop the subreport
onto the main report (note that you can put a subreport within a list,
within a table etc). Then right mouse click on the subreport and setup the
parameter mapping.

Hi All,

I am very new at reporting services. I was wondering what exactly is the
purpose of a subreport, and do you only use them with charts and graphs? Can
subreports be use for parameters meaning- I have a report that has 2
parameter: one is departments, the orther is jobs in that department. I want
to choose a department and then go to the job prompt and get only those jobs
in that department. can that be done with just using parameters because mine
is not working the way i need it to or can i use subreport and set it up that
way?

Thanks in advance, Kerrie

Thank you very much for your help.

One more question
When I try to name it, it keep throwing back the error:
The ReportName for the subreport “Job_Name” is not valid. Report names can
not be empty strings or just whitespace
Should I name I a field name or something?
Anybodies help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Kerrie
