sql server reporting services:
Robert, I want to thank you for monitoring this group and providing us with answers to many of our questions. I would like to bend your ear concerning some functionality that we desperately need with SRS 2005. We are very happy overall with SRS and your team has done a great job. We are going to use Dundas's new SRS charting control since our application depends highly on producing fully functional charts and graphs. Our company currently uses ChartFX and the users enjoy the cabapility of hovering over an area of a chart and a tooltip being shown. If we are to use SRS, we have found that the ability to perform this hover and displaying of a tooltip has been disabled in Dundas's SRS chart control as required by Microsoft. We would like to first know why this very important feature is disabled and second, when can we expect this policy to be changed? We are a complete MS shop and this feature above all is creating the most friction and concern as we develop the next version of our product. Once again, thank you for your time and I look forward to your response. ===================== Thanks! Keith
Charts (and CustomReportItem) only support one tooltip for the entire image area at this point. This is not a "feature explicitly disabled" but rather a missing feature in RS. Unfortunately, we did not have enough time & resources to add tooltip support for data points, x-axis labels, y-axis labels, and legend within charts in the RS 2005 release (RDL, Designer, HTML, and Preview/RGDI support). We appreciate the feedback. It will be considered for the planning of future releases. -- Robert This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Robert, Thank you for the quick response. I understand your situation. If there is a prioritized wish list for the next version or service pack, I vote for this to be number one. ===================== Thanks! Keith p.s. Get off the couch and exercise! Just to add my 2 cents, this is an extremely important issue to our company as well as we build our reporting infrastructure around SRS. This is a frequent request of our customers and in their minds a relatively "simple" thing to do. I of course understand the potential issues to overcome building into SRS, but that said, it is a hot issue for many of us that have adopted SRS. -David [quoted text, click to view] "Keith" wrote: > Robert, > > Thank you for the quick response. Hi Keith, I would like to invite you to download the fully functional evaluation version of Nevron Chart for .NET! Nevron Chart supports tooltips over the chart area and is surpassing in many ways ChartFX and Dundas. Our charting component is powerful and exendable. We also have very flexible licensing policy. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need detailed information regarding our Charting solution for .NET. Sincerely, Christo Bahchevanov, Sales Manager Nevron LLC - Professional Data Visualization Phone: 1 888 201 6088 Fax: 908 668 1207 Cell: +359 888 670 990 Email: christo@nevron.com, sales@nevron.com http://www.nevron.com
My own number one feature request - controllable font embedding in PDF files, to make them client-independent - we use bar code fonts, and having to distribute them to clients is an unwanted complication - workable for us up to this point, fortunately.
Does your product work as a custom component in SRS?
