I didn't try this so I don't know about the beta but for production you are
supposed to be able to install RS 2005 using SQL Server 2000 as its object
store (i.e. not just report against it). You will need a SQL Server 2005
license though.

But I'm not sure that could just install rs 2005 - you need to install the
entire server ... but using rs2005 can be done using sql server 2000 data as
source...
