sql server reporting services:
I'm very experienced with SQL Server, but new to reporting services. I'm
currently working with the Report builder, and I'm having a hard time trying
to get it to work as I need.

From my web app, I'm able to put a link on there for ad-hoc reports.
Clicking it opens the report builder. The models are available to pick from
to build the report. (The app authenticates with a sql server account)

What I want is to have a different default "home" for each ananlys that
creates an ad-hoc report. These homes would be private. I also want to let
each analyst share their ad-hoc reports with whoever they choose.

Can I do this with Reporting services?

I believe you can. Making the Home folder private is posible by creating a
folder for each analyst and only give permissions to each analyst to access
their own folder.

Now, for the analysts to share the reports they create, you will have to
create another folder with the connections so all the models from all
analysts will use the same connection(s).

The users may share their reports by saving them to their machines or in a
share drive. Let me know if you need to instructions on how to save reports
in your local machine.
