sql server reporting services: Hi,

We are planning to use SQL 2000 Reporting Services in order to create and
deliver reports to our end-users. It is our understanding that we do not
need any extra licenses for Reporting Services as long as our SQL Server is
properly licensed.

However, in order to use Report Designer we need Visual Studio. Can you
please explain to me what product do we need to buy and how much it will
cost us. We are planning to have two report developers.

Thanks

Branko Sitnicic

RS 2005 comes with a version of Visual Studio so what I am going to tell you
is only true for RS 2000, you do not need to purchase anything for RS 2005.

OK, for RS 2000 any product that comes with VS will work. Previously the
least expensive way was to buy VB.Net. HOWEVER, the issue now will be that
you need a product that is the older version (Not any of the 2005 versions).
RS 2000 report designer will NOT work with VS 2005. It has to be VS 2003.
VB.Net 2003 used to be available for about $100.

Microsoft doesn't sell VB.net anymore do they?

I heard that they're discontinuing it altogether; I mean they're all so
happy with C# adoption; and they've proven time and time again-- that
they don't give a crap about VB

personally; I would rather flip burgers than use a language named C so
I moved to PHP.
it's free, stable, fast, and dreamweaver is an awesome development
environment
