XML Error on new Report Creation

XML Error on new Report Creation The Geoff

sql server reporting services:
I've got a real annoying problem. I'm trying to do SSRS project that is of
course already late. And I have been stopped cold by this freaky error.
So I'm using VS.Net 2005, Reporting Services 2005 and have the Business
Intelligence Projects in my VS.Net.
I create a new Report Project. I right click on the Reports folder in the
project and CHoose Add-->New Item-->Report.
At which point VS creates the RDL file, opens it and gives me a gray screen
that says, "The XML Document is not well formed. It contains the following
error: There are multiple root elements. Line 27. Position 2."
I open the RDL file in a text editor and it looks fine. I open it in Firefox
and IE and they both agree that I've got a well formed xml document.
I zipped up the project, sent it to my co-worked, he opened it on his system
with no problem. Looks just like a blank report.
I end up, un-installing VS.Net and Sql 2005 then re-installing them. In the
thought that maybe something along the way had put a dent in the VS Business
Intelligence on my system.
But that proved to be noting but a big waste of time. So here I am, with a
system that cannot even open a brand new blank report, much less hope to work
on the exisitng report that's giving me issues.
If anybody has any suggestions or opinions, I would love to hear them.

Thanks,
Geoff

I think you are telling me that when you open the report in the designer the
'not well formed' error is thrown. How about when you open in in VS xml
editor with the View Code rt. clk. menu item? Sometimes I have the same
report open in both designers, the Report designer and the xml window. I
can do find/replace types of changes in the xml, then when I select the
report designer tab it goes blank and regenerates the layout. This won't
solve any problems, but it may help figure out if the xml is well formed in
the xml code window, and if it is, then you know the designer assemblies are
the problem, which they shouldn't be due to the reinstall.....I was thinking
it could be a change to the rdl template, but opening it up on another
machine invalidates that. Crazy stuff and I feel your pain.
