sql server reporting services : Using RowNumber(Nothing) causes RS2005 to blow up

Actually, I've tried RowNumber(Nothing), RowNumber(), and
RowNumber("CallDetail") (where CallDetail is a dataset), and it blows up.
This is a calculated field. Doesn't actually matter if I put the field on
the report or not, as long as it appears in the list of fields, it blows up.
By "blows up", I mean when I hit the preview button, it comes up with the
"Microsoft Visual Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close."
dialog box. I can include the error report if it would help, as I can
duplicate it very easily.

So we had a Microsoft Tech dude here today, and I told him about my problem.
He fired up a clean report, tried the RowNumber function. His VS2005 blew
up, just like mine. Blech! Seems to be a rather basic feature to not
work...
