Unable to create virtual directory for ReportManager -- sql server reporting services

Help!

I'm using SQL Server 2005 "Reporting Service Configuration Manager" and I
can't get past the "Report Manager Virtual Directory" step.

The name box shows "<Not Set>", so I click "New...". Enter a new (unique)
name for the virtual directory and click ok. The error is always the same:

ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: An unknown error
has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 80070002 at
ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportManagerAdmin.CreateVirtualDirectory(String virtualDirectory, String path)

"Report Server" was able to create a virtual directory without any
problems... so then why is Report Manager giving me trouble? The directory
it links to looks fine and in the webshare directory I see all my attempts at
setting the virtual directory. Clear them out and start over -- same
problem. Play with permissions -- not helping. I'm out of ideas. What am I

did you finally manage to solve your problem, I have just the same error and
