sql server reporting services : SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Logon issue

TomT

I have set up an installation of Reporting Services on a WIndows 2003
(Standard) server. I've applied sp1 and the cumulative hotfix.

The Reporting Services service runs under a domain (admin) account. I can
connect to the server and deploy reports, however when I run a report I get
this error:

Logon failed.
For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the
local server machine, or enable remote errors

When designing the report I can preview it, and all seems fine. The IIS app
pool runs under the Network Services account.

I am at a loss as to why I'm getting this error - the connection for the
datasource is set up with correct credentials.....

Any help would be appreciated,

TomT

Wei,

Here's the entire message when I run the report:

Logon failed.
Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. (Exception from HRESULT:
0x8007052E)

Hi Tom,

Please modify the credential of the Datasource in the Reporting Manager to
be a consisted user.

Hello Tom,

Would you please try to login to the Report Server and run the report? I
would like to know the detailed error message to troubleshoot.

Also, you could access the report log to check what's the exactly problem
is.

By default, the log file is located at \Microsoft SQL Server\<SQL Server
Instance>\Reporting Services\LogFiles.

You could post the latest log file here for me to troubleshoot.

Please let me know the information so that I can provide further assistance.

Sincerely,

Wei Lu

Hi Tom,

I means you could modify the credential to be a fixed user. For example,
the sa account. Please let me know the result.

Sincerely,

Tried the sa account, as well as a domain admin account, neither of which
worked.

Thanks

Hi Tom,

If you try to access the Report Server http://<server name>/ReportServer,
does any error appear?

Also, if you try to run the rsconfig utility to connect to the reportserver
database by using the domain admin account, does this issue appeared?

rsconfig Utility

Hope this will be helpful!

Wei,

I can access the report server and see a list of reports, data sources etc.
I do have keep resetting the permissions on the windows\temp folder, and
windows\microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files for the
network service account - for some reason the permissions settings for these
gets reset periodically. However, once reset, I can access the report server
as you asked.

I was also able to connect via the rsconfig utility. When designing a
report/datasource in VS 2005, the preview works fine. However, after
deploying I get the Logon failed. Logon failure: unknown user name or bad
password. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007052E) message. If I change the
credentials for the datasource on the report server to be another account,
e.g. sa, I get the same message. If I specify no credentials, same error.
Using the domain account which runs the service also gets this error.

I haven't seen this before, and am unclear as to why it's happening.

Thanks for your help,

Tom

Wei,

After a bit more reseach, I have found the problem. The issue was with the
Execution Account not being properly set up (actually it was, but someone
changed the password for the account and didn't tell me). Once I reset that
account, things are working properly now.

Thanks for all your help,

Tom
