Unfortunately you can't deploy automaticaly RDL's from VS2005 to SQL 2000 Reporting Services. Of course in some cases you can put your SQL2005 RDL's on RS 2000, but then you might be obliged to manually edit this file to change the namespace and remove some specific RS 2005 RDL features (such as fixed headers for table/matrix, interactive sort, multi value or hidden parameters, the new CustomReportItem & CustomProperties structures, the new Action structure) So, it's possible but not quite simple. You have two answers but it depends on exactly what you are asking. If you
are asking if you can install RS 2005 and use SQL 2000 server for the metadata/object caching the answer is yes. That is fully supported. is the client need advanced feature of reports available in RS2005 ? like interactive sorting,multivalue parameter... If not best way to save time and cost is to develop the report RDL in RS2000 designer and you can upload in RS2000 reprot manager or RS2005 report manager to work. I want do develop SQL 2005 reports using SQL 2005 server and 2005 Reporitng Services installed on my development computer. My client is running SQL 2000. Can I add 2005 Reporing Services to his environment and run my reports? Yes. You need a SQL 2005 license but that is all. SQL Server 2000 does not
have to be upgraded. You can install RS 2005 to use SQL Server 2000 for its metadata/object caching. Bava is correct. You can develop RS 2000 reports and deploy to either RS
2000 or RS 2005. As far as the license there is no such thing as RS 2005 license, the only license is SQL 2005.
