sql server reporting services : Is 2008 any better with PDF performance/size?

In SQL Server Reporting Services 2005, reports we created with any
graphic or graph took FOREVER if we wanted to generate PDFs, and then
when the final PDF document was created it was bloated beyond
belief.

By opening the PDF in Acrobat and saving it again (just open, and
save) it woudl reduce the size by 95-98% of the original size.

I have read some statements that 2008 is supposed to be better.

Can anyone comment on this? Did anyone have problems with creating
PDFs in 2005 and is now using 2008?

Have you used any other reporting engines (Crystal, ActiveReports, et
al) to compare the speed of RS vs. others? ActiveReports seems to
have a rich API but you have to roll your own queue/scalability.

We've been using ActiveReports for an older application and are
considering SQL '05 RS for an asp.net application that has huge .pdf
reports with some simple graphics- but your post makes me wonder if
that's such a good idea - thanks.
