What "environment" are you talking about?

Not sure - I have an x51 and I'm certain it doesn't have the firt 9 ports
either. Have you added a serial peripheral (like a CF or SD card) to add
ports? The "GPD" ports could be anything the OEM wants them to be.

Sounds like you are describing the ports listed in the GPS Settings control
panel applet. These ports don't exist but you can chose to assign them to
the GPS intermediate driver so that your legacy applications can connect to
the specified port as if it was a real GPS serial device. The GPD prefix is
used to allow more available devices since the COM ports are often taken by
other hardware especially on phone enabled devices.

Hi Chris
i have german version. when i ha a look at GPS at the Icon
between Programms and Help ( Preferences ?) --->System---GPS
the have dropdown menue with COM1-9 and GPD1-9.

My really problem is that:
i have a liitlle test app to send/recive data via a serial port.
for the dell i have an adaptecable with a physical serial port.
(15 pins)

The application runs (communicate) fine on a WM2003
PocketPC named RECON but not on this DELL.

I have an Oszilloscope an a serial adapter with LEDs to check
that datas are coming thru the port. but ... nothing.

May be i have to do some other Switches turn on/off in the
preferences to have a serial communicatin on this DELL ?

Perhaps the GPS sharing that Windows mobile provides has generated those
port names.
