dotnet academic:
I bought vstudio.net academic v2003,
i also at this moment had to buy windows 2000 and upgrade
from win98. I upgraded and then ran the vstudio setup.
It ran fine until in the middle of step 2 when without
a warning icon or anything the system just stopped.(froze)

Do you have any anti-virus software, firewall, etc. running? If so shut all
that off, then retry the VS.NET install.
When you say "just stopped (froze)", do you mean you entire system locked
up, requiring a reboot, or that the install froze? If it was the
installation, try shutting down, restarting, then restart the installation.
If it was your entire system, and it does it consistently, see the bad news
below.
Upgrading from Win 98 to Win 2000 can produce instabilities. As a last
resort, I would suggest that you do a clean install of Windows 2000, then
try the VS.NET install.

So much for the generic ideas.
When you say "in Step 2", exactly what does that mean? Are you saying the
lockup occurred with CD #2 in your drive? What other software is installed
besides the OS?
Perhaps more details will shed light on the problem.
You are entitled to free installation support from Microsoft as well. If you
wish to pursue that, look here:

The suggestion to stop all MS applications means things like Word, Outlook,
Explorer, etc. You should not be stopping anything with a control panel. You
should not be stopping anything with any administrative tools. You may have
stopped a service that was needed for the installation.

I would suggest that you reboot and just try the installation without
stopping anything and see what happens.
