.Net install problem (placeholder.txt) -- dotnet academic

I have'nt been able to install VS .Net becoz it says it
cannot access the file placeholder.txt. I just bought the
cd and it has no scratches or any other abuse which
should rule out any physical problems. Is there any way i
can skip this file or is there anything i can do
successfully install .Net.

This may sound like a silly question, but have you followed that path on
your CD to see if the file is actually there and readable? Are we talking
about an original CD from a retail package, or a CD provided to you by an
academic institution with a MSDNAA membership? I'm asking because the path
to placeholder.txt is very long, and some CD writing software will fail to
copy such long paths properly if the settings are not tweaked appropriately.
If you have a second CD/DVD drive in your PC, have you tried it?
BTW, thanks for posting the error message you got. It helps others here ask
better questions/ provide better answers.
