I'm trying to connect MSDE server connection for class. After loading into
VB .NET, there should be a "add server" button in the server explorer. I
can't seem to add the button or connect to the Db server. Please help me!!!
thanks

Right-click the "Servers" icon in the treeview. You'll see an Add Server
entry in the context menu.

I guess the main issue is that there isn't a server icon listed in the server
explorer window. Could this be a limitation of the visual basic .net
standard ed?

Now that we know the edition you're using, I don't believe so. Look at this
page listing Standard Edition features:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/vbcon/html/vbgrfvisualbasicstandardeditionfeatures.asp

Server Explorer is listed prominently, so I don't think that's the problem.
As I do know that there are no issues with installing MSDE after installing
VS/VB, I'd suggest uninstalling, then reinstalling MSDE to see if that
causes your VB to "see" the MSDE instance.
