I have recently installed windows xp on my 'd' drive and wish to delete off
windows98, so i went to format drive 'c', which is a wrong move. Now when i
on my computer, the screen stop at ms-dos with the 'c' prompt and there is
only 1 command.com file in the c drive. How do i start the window xp in my
'd' drive?

When you formatted your C: drive, you destroyed the boot sector.
Check into utilities fixmbr and fixboot.

Try ResQ from http://www.invircible.com/

Or, you might try (as you say you can boot to DOS):

....to restore the Windows MBR, boot to DOS using your
rescue floppies, and run "fdisk /MBR".

If these suggestions don't work for you, try searching:

for additional alternatives.

Hi
pcdg42 is right...I just want to add, that you don't need to download ResQ.
The necessary tools(fixmbr&fixboot) are on the Windows XP disc. Just boot
from the cd and instead of choosing "install windows" you can press "r" to
get to the emergency shell. There you can use fixmbr and fixboot.
