dotnet academic:
So I install Vista on my computer about 2 weeks ago, and everything's fine.
Now it's asking me for the CD key, and since it didn't ask for the key when I
installed Vista I didn't bother to keep track of the CD sleeve. Right now I
can't access any programs other than my browser (Firefox) since it's saying
my copy of Vista isn't genuine. I've got the CD right in front of me, just
not the sleeve. Is there any way I can find my CD key without having to pay

Practically speaking, you need to find that sleeve and key. If you cannot, I
hope you have evidence of the purchase (receipt, etc.) so you can contact
Microsoft (if you have a retail Vista) or the vendor from whom you purchased
the OEM edition.
You also need to ask your Vista questions in a group for Vista. To find the
group you need:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx

Select your language in the treeview on the left, then select Windows. In
the Windows area, select Windows Vista and find a group there.
