dotnet odbc.net : Visual Basic .NET Standard & SQL Server

I am trying to develop a web-application with connectivity to a SQL server
but when I proceed thru the SqlDataAdapter wizard, even thought I am able to
sucessfully configure the ODBC connector, I receive an error suggesting this
version of Visual Studio is only compatible with MSDE or Access database
files. Does anyone know if this is true? Is it the VB .NET Professional
version I would need for SQL 2000 connectivity?

Thank you very much for the reply. I thought this was probably the case but
wanted confirmation before I started throwing money at a solution that was
not the solution. The sales folks that cater to us non-profit educational
institutions are not too helpful in regard to the right solution or minimul
solution since this means less profitability. Thanks again!

Hi Roger,

It seems that you're developing on a VS .net standard edition. However,
only Enterprise Architecture and Enterprise Developer edition of Visual
Studio .NET can be connected to a SQL server 2000 database. Here's a list
of compatibility of each edition:

If anything is unclear, please feel free to reply to the post.

Does this mean that you must develop using MSDE, but can
still use SQL server for the "deployed" application when
using .net Standard?

Yes, Ryan. You cannot connect to a SQL server at design time, but can use
when deploying.
