This is a followon to my post "Not sure on ICredentials issue" - I figured I
should start new here.

I need to be able to get an xml file on a remote share where the share is
only available to local users on that remote system. As I understand it -
please correct me if I am wrong, is to:

call NetUseAdd() with no drive letter
call XmlDocument.Load() passing the filename with the same \\server\share
call NetUseDel()

A couple of questions:
1) Once the load completes - it is fine to kill this connection - correct?
2) If there is already a share to \\server\share for another user and I then
call this - which user is used for the XmlDocument.Load()
3) Same question on a share already open and I call NetUseDel(). I can't
close any other shares as that could screw up a user.

And to confirm - this is the best way to do this - correct?

Hi Dave,

1) After XmlDocument.Load(), the file is loaded into memory and closed,
you're free to close the network resource.

2) It's not permitted to connect to a network resource with multiple
connections. If you try to call NetUseAdd with another user while it's
already connected using a user, following exception (return code = 0x4c3)
will be thrown:

Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using
more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous
connections to the server or shared resource and try again

3) Therefore you could check the return code, if it's already connected,
don't call NetUseDel later.

It's the best way to do this if there's no DFS resource involved. See my
reply to your other post for WNetAddConnection2 if DFS will be used.
