WSE 2.0 Policy Sample, Problem with Certificate

WSE 2.0 Policy Sample, Problem with Certificate SQLAgentman

dotnet web services enhancements: Hello WSE Gods,

On one of my machines I am using the sample certificates that came with
WSE 2.0 Samples. However when I Install any of the three certificates
I get the following errors:

"Windows does not have enough information to verify this certificate"
"The issuer of this certificate could not be found."
I see this when I double click on a Certificate under the General Tab
and Under the Certification Path Tab respectively.

On all other machines I have certificate is Ok... etc...
Any Ideas?

Thanks

Hi SQLAgentman,

It is normal to see this kind of message. The reason is that these certificates are generated by some tool and the issuer is not in your Trusted Root Certification Authorities store. Go to Certification Path tab again and double click on the issuer. You should see its certificate and a message like this "This CA Root certificate is not trusted. To enable trust, install this certificate in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store.".

Martin,

How do I install the certificate in the Trusted Root Certification
Authorities store?
Do I need to? Do I have to?

FYI, Someone deleted all Certificates from this particular machine. So
I had to restore many "shiped-In" certificates with the OS
For me to get to the point described above... ( my original errors)

Installing the "shipped-in" certificates eliminated the "This CA Root
certificate is not trusted", Now it said "This certificate is OK."

It looks like the Test Certificates Depend on other Certificates,
Intermediate or some Root CA or something...
Can you Please or anyone else explain this to me.

Thank you,

Sql

As a rule, a test cert is typically only good on the machine it was created
on.

Try creating your own test certificates.

There should be documentation on makecert, or search here for other threads
asking about makecert - the examples abound.
