dotnet windows forms designtime : DataGridView causes Studio to crash

I have a VB WindowsForms 2005 project with several DataGridView controls.
In the designer I click the arrow to get hold of the "DataGridView Tasks".
When I click the combobox for "Choose Data Source" my whole IDE crashes!
This happens every time, which makes me quite frustrated.

The odd thing is that it worked before.
I have several DataGridView controls in the project that I designed this way.
Now all of them will crash VS when I do the same thing.

In other projects it works.
I can't find any reason why this problem would occur here and not elsewhere.
The project will compile and run without problem.
Any suggestions?

Hi Jaklithn,

Based on my understanding, one of winform prjoect is experiencing IDE crash
while using the smart tag of DataGridView control to choose datasource. But
other winform projects work well without this problem on your machine.

It seems that this problem is this project specific, since other projects
do not have such problem on your machine. The recommended way to isolate
the project specific problem is copying your project to a test position,
then you may remove your controls on the project and comment the code
blocks one by one to see if any control removing or code commenting will
eliminate this problem. This will help you to identify the small code area
or control that is triggering this strange problem.

If you have reduced your project into a very small one but still experience
this crash problem, can you attach this project in a further reply for
reproduce? I will help to take a troubleshoot.

Thanks.
