Hi Urine Vendor , You offer your wares : " Do You Need Any Urine Today ? " From Ananov.COM , Leeds U.K. , September 2001 _ http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_389070.html " Hindu nationalists in India have launched a marketing exercise to promote cow's urine as a health cure . They say the urine , being sold for 30p a bottle , can be used for ailments ranging from liver disease to obesity and even cancer . The urine is being sold under the label ' Gift of the Cow ', and is being enthusiastically promoted by the government of Gujarat . The urine is collected every day from almost 600 shelters for rescued and wounded cattle , and is available in about 50 centres in Gujarat . It also comes in tablets or a cream mixed with other traditional medicinal herbs and demand is currently outstripping supply . Dr Jadi Patel , at the VHP's headquarters in Ahmedabad , said : ' It's very popular because the results are very good , but we've got a shortage . ' The healing properties of cow dung and cow's urine are mentioned in ancient Hindu texts and authorities claim research conducted by doctors at the cow-protection commission indicates the urine can cure anything from skin diseases , kidney and liver ailments to obesity and heart ailments . Although most Indian doctors view the medicines as eccentric , several advocates of the treatment have come forward in Gujarat to support the claims , reports the Daily Telegraph . They include Vidhyaben Mehta , a 65-year-old woman with a cancerous tumour on her chest who has been taking cow's urine for the past three years . She says she is no longer in pain and has survived in spite of medical predictions

Not likely. There are two types of techies like there are two types of politicians. It is perhaps this binary relationship in human thinking that makes the computer field so appealing to us. The MS camp will be around, so will the *NIX camp. It will take a new revolution in computing to change this balance. point of mono and .NET: create yet another layer to try and lock in customers with unnecessary 'layers'. create something that could be just as easily done in g++ fool people into thinking that less functionality ( pointers ) equals 'easy of use' scope inherentence down so far that it becomes useless, because .NET programmers are too stupid to understand it. add a lot of 'configuration tools', use DLLs a lot, push versioning into 'config' files and then make up marketing claims about liberating us from 'dll hell' -- when it still exists. create a poorly documenented and little understood application framework -- to fool people into thinking it's anything more than a rehash of Visual Basic 6 -- i.e. a fool's paradise for people who can't program live applications. create a draw to siphon off creative talent that might challenge the m$ office franchise with better written applications and so on, and so on, .... -- There are Ogg Vorbis streams @ Virgin Radio http://www.virginradio.co.uk/thestation/listen/index.html

I see you snipped context and you don't know how to write a sentence. How compatible is what? How much does what cost? Darwin is as compatible as any other BSD-based OS. It costs $0.00 Darwin/X11 is as compatible as any other BSD-based OS. It costs $0.00. MacOS X/X11 is as compatible as any other BSD-based OS, plus it runs Aqua apps. It costs $129. -- Rick

Define "worthwhile code", then. I could cobble up something using Glade, for example, and substitute it for jbailo's admittedly rather silly example. :-) For example, I could compute pi to 10,000 places for some reason. Or simulate a daisy-cutter dropping on Saddam's head. (Of course the main drawback with the latter is that I can't draw, period, so it would have to be a very *abstract* representation of Saddam's head... :-) ) I'll admit I do think the Java variant is simpler but both are interesting. Jeff was once a young programmer. He'd stay up late nights, linking, compiling. But now, give him a simple piece of code, and he can't do it. The first time her told her 'Honey, this has never happened before, you know how I always link.' Jeff, it's over, your linker is limp, your compiler is pooped, probably the only thing that gives you pleasure is your debugger...
Hi Jay Bailo , You say : " Jeff , it's over , your linker is limp " Oh no ... Not my linker ! ... How will I dink her ? You say : " Your compiler is pooped, probably the only thing that gives you pleasure is your debugger . " Thou shalt not bugger thy neighbor . ( Actually the U.S. supreme court recently legalized that ) I recall they days when I used to bugger my girl friends . :D ( Sometimes I'd alternate between the two " Ports " too , I never used condoms . ) I break into a song : _ Those Were the Days _ , _ All in the Family _ Theme . ( As sung by Archie And Edith Bunker . ) from news:367338B1.EA9B67E8@tiac.net Boy , the way Glenn Miller played ! Songs that made the Hit Parade . Guys like us ... we had it made . Those were the days ! And you knew where you were then . Girls were girls ... and men were men . Mister , we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again . Didn't need no welfare state . Everybody pulled his weight . Gee , our old LaSalle ran great .
Hi Spooky Ghost , Are you going to be out haunting tomorrow ? ( Halloween ) You say : " For example , I could compute pi to 10,000 places for some reason . " Yuck ! That's just a bad as reversing a string . You say : " Or simulate a daisy-cutter dropping on Saddam's head . " Hmmm ... That sounds interesting . Could you make it John Baiiiilo's head instead ?
Hi J. Ba Ba Bailo , You say : " well -- I guess in the looney bin all is possible ... "
Hi B. Bailo , You say : " Or sorry , I didn't mean to say the word ' hard ' around you -- with your * condition * and all . " What " Condition " ?

If you can't do the easy stuff... how can you do the hard stuff ( or sorry, I didn't mean to say the word 'hard' around you -- with your *condition* and all )...

Does inflatable plastic constitute a 'girlfriend' ? Just hope to God you cleaned it when you were done... well -- i guess in the looney bin all is possible...

speaking of Kinks (and the new Bowie re-mix): Dirty old river, must you keep rolling Flowing into the night People so busy, makes me feel dizzy Taxi light shines so bright But I don't need no friends As long as I gaze on waterloo sunset I am in paradise.... Every day, I look at the world from my window But chilly, chilly is the evening time Waterloo sunset's fine Terry meets julie, waterloo station Every friday night But I am so lazy, don't want to wander I stay at home at night But I don't feel afraid As long as I gaze on waterloo sunset I am in paradise Every day I look at the world from my window But chilly, chilly is the evening time Waterloo sunset's fine Millions of people swarming like flies 'round waterloo underground But terry and julie cross over the river Where they feel safe and sound And they don't need no friends As long as they gaze on waterloo sunset They are in paradise Waterloo sunset's fine.

Wasn't planning to. :-) [quoted text, click to view] > > You say : > " For example , > I could compute pi to 10,000 places for some reason . " > > Yuck ! That's just a bad as reversing a string .
So suggest something more useful. :-) I've got snippets of this that and the other, and could cobble up idiotic things in a pinch using Glade. Mind you, putting intelligence into them might be the tough part. [quoted text, click to view] > > You say : > " Or simulate a daisy-cutter dropping on Saddam's head . " > > Hmmm ... Sicko. :-P But I could compromise: how about Osama? :-) Instead of a moustache I could draw a turban and beard... -- #191, ewill3@earthlink.net -- and with OpenGL it might even shade properly

Not a heck of a lot. I'd have to figure out how to animate using GTK, and then figure out the interface. It wouldn't be a difficult interface: "Press Button To Drop Bomb On Osama Bin Laden". :-) jbailo's done most of the work for me, in fact. (I'd use xfig to draw Osama, and then do something intelligent with the coordinates. Or I could nab the data from XEarth (which somewhere has to have a 3-D representation of the continents) and try something with that. I am not an expert graphics artist. :-) ) Ideally, I'd be able to cross-compile it using Mingw32 so that I'd have both Linux and Windows executables. I would surmise GTK is Gnu-based. -- #191, ewill3@earthlink.net
