dotnet general:
I have been developing on my Laptop (1.9Ghz 512MbRam) in VB.NET2005
for two years now and all of a sudden my performance has reduced
dramatically.
I have defragged the hard drive, but no performance increase.

Does anyone know if the registry or any other system files need
cleaning out, and if so please could they suggest any useful advice on
where to obtain this information.

Many thanks in advance

Not a concrete answer, but I'll throw it out.

Do you have a spywear cleaner?

www.lavasoft.com and www.spybot.com are the 2 that I run about once a month.

If you're running XP, then I'd go to at least 1 gig ram. If you're running
Vista, then 1.5 or 2 gig.

I know the ram doesn't explain the sudden change, just giving you some
in-general advice.

Type msconfig in RUN window.

1. Uncheck all unecessary softwares which runs at the time of startup.
Restart the system after making changes.

2. There is a free third party software CCleaner. Run that for all options
including registry. You will se dramatic increase in performance.

It worked for me and hope the same for you.

But it is always good to have at least 1 gb of memory. Just make sure your
laptop supports increasing RAM from 512 to 1gb.

Vista I agree with Terry. It needs 2gb to get good performance.
