Most popular programming language?
Hi all, I have been recently assigned the responsibility to conduct a survey, the aim of which to find the most popular programming language. I know that many of you program only in C#, but will be conducting this survey in other groups. The outcome will determine the plans for the future for some of the programming languages. Please reply with the name of your favourite programming language Thank you very much for taking part in this survey. James
I personaly like the c#, because of the unmanaged ablility. On the other hand...... The languages are getting so close, why not try to maybe..... mix some of the syntext? (I guess that would get confusing, hu?) One of the things that fustrate me is VBA. As soon as you convert to C#, then it is hard switching just to write VBA. Unfortunatly I get the "joy" of writing that script language from time to time. Why is there not a CSA? :( Better yet, why is there even VBA!!!!!! 'Most widely used' would probably be a more useful thing to find out, which you won't find out by asking people's *favorite* language. I am fairly sure that worldwide, Visual Basic (pre-.NET) is a contender for the former, but that relatively few people who express a preference would name it their *favorite*. My favorite is of course the lambda calculus. Hey, it's Turing-complete, what more could you want? -- Larry Lard Replies to group please

Hi, Wait, are you asking in a C# group which is the favorite language of the poster? Save your time, go to netscan.microsoft.com see how many individual poster this group has and you can put this number down to c# cheers, -- Ignacio Machin, ignacio.machin AT dot.state.fl.us Florida Department Of Transportation [quoted text, click to view] "James++" <james3.14159@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1128402810.766626.75350@o13g2000cwo.googlegroups.com... > Hi all, > > I have been recently assigned the responsibility to conduct a survey, > the aim of which to find the most popular programming language. James++ You state: The outcome will determine the plans for the future for some of the programming languages. Care to elaborate on that? Prolog! But isn't all this rather like asking a carpenter, "What's your favorite tool?" There's more than one, for different purposes!
I hope I'm not lighting a fire in a csharp group. VB.Net is my language of choice Now someone will probably ask me why am I then posting in a csharp group. I like both languages, but VB.Net is still my favorite. The radest, badest tool on the planet.
What do you mean 'Try keeping the post on-topic next time'. The post is about the most popular programming language and throughout this post you have not yet indicated which language you prefer. Wake up or get out!!! Kevin
Oops, yes, sorry about that. Still trying to get the foot out of my mouth. Thanks for the polite response. Kevin

Ignacio, Good to finally meet you too! It's a shame the summit is so large, and too few days. It's hard to actually get together with all the people one wants to. I should have been more specific. Keep the post specific to the thread. You were responding to a thread which had deviated from the root (it was regarding myself and another MVP). I have, but have never used, a copy of APL for the IBM PC (for DOS 1.0). It's on 5.25" diskettes but would presumably still run in a Windows DOS box. How much am I bid?

I (and 15 of my fellow developers) am currently using a 6 months old copy of Dyalog APL v10.1 looking forward to release 11 due out later this year. APL has moved quite a lot since the days of IBM's version for DOS... -- WildHeart'2k5
