Hi Elhanan

Connections to Oracle in the Database Explorer are supported in the Visual Web Developer 2005 Express product. The other Visual Studio 2005 Express products (C++, C#, Visual Basic, J#) are targeted at local data scenarios so the only connections supported in Database Explorer are Access database file and SQL Server Database Files.

Connections to Oracle are also supported in the Visual Studio 2005 Standard, Visual Studio 2005 Professional, Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office, and Visual Studio 2005 Team System editions. This link gives an overview of the different editions of Visual Studio 2005:

I hope this helps

what do you mean sql server database files? can i at least connect to
server on another machine? or is just like an msde thing?

i'm also assuming that all of this lack of support is just Database
explorer, i can connect to oracle database just not with wizards (which
i only use to for creating typed datasets, which i can always do
manually).

I believe you can only connect to SQL 2005 Express Edition on the local machine and not on a server with VB2005 Express Edition.

Nope, no limitations. This is part of the .NET Framework which is publicly
available for free

Hi

Just to summarize:

1. There is no limitation in the language Express products for connecting to databases using ADO .Net in run time code.

2. For design time tools and wizards (such as Server Explorer, Query Designer, Table Designer, Data Sources Window, Data Set designer), the language Express products are limited to local data only (Access and SQL Express 2005).

I hope this clears things up!

Mike
