Error upgrading VB6 project to VB.NET Graeme Neath
11/24/2003 4:29:00 PM
vb.net upgrade: I'm having some problems upgrading a project from VB6 Professional to VB.NET
2003 Professional.

When I start the upgrade wizard it starts to convert the code, but then
stops with what appears to be a dialog generated by a component that we use
'CCRPUpDown' with the error:

Run-time error '32768' Application-defined or object-defined error

This dialog only has an 'OK' button, which dismisses the dialog when pressed
and the conversion continues.

I get the same error again for another form which uses this component, then
when the upgrade tool is converting another form (which does not have the
troublesome component on it) I get this error:

The instruction at "0x60262113" referenced memory at "0x0d27f000". The
memory could not be "read".

The conversion stops at this point, although the wizard window remains. When
I click 'cancel' on the wizard I get this error:

The attempt to cancel upgrade process failed (The RPC server is
unavailable). Upgrade wasn't successful. Wizard will exit.

The CCRPUpDown component was sourced from here http://www.mvps.org/ccrp/

I still have VB6 Professional installed on my machine, which is able to
compile and run the project without a problem.

I did have Visual C++.net standard 2002 installed, but I removed that after
I installed Visual Studio .NET 2003 Professional. Could this be a problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Graeme,

I'm sorry that you've run into problem with your VB Upgrade. I was able to
reproduce the problem that you're seeing with this Up/Down control when I
attempted to upgrade a small project with the control. I also saw several
errors that were reported by the control when I attempted to host it in a
new VB.Net project . These errors that the control reported ranged from a
327: Data value named 'Var' not found to a 429: ActiveX cannot create
object. In addition it appears that this is a windowless control which is
not supported by .Net.

Since this is the case I would suggest that you replace the control with
the VB version in your VB6 project and then upgrade again.
