vb.net upgrade:

Is it just me, or is the VS 2005 considerably slower than 2003? It
sure feels like a performance downgrade. I am talking about all
aspects of the programming environment here.

TIA,

Well, you know, it's a beta release. It's probably compiled for debug, and
loaded up with tracing and logging and who knows what else, and for sure
they haven't tuned it for the release. You should never expect release-level
performance in a beta version of anything.

Understood, but my question is really whether others feel it is
noticeably slower or if its just me.

One of my main reasons for asking is that I am running the beta on a
machine which is slower than my primary development box (I never
install beta software on my primary development box). So I do not
have an accurate baseline for comparison.

I was hoping to hear from someone who has installed VS 2005 on the
same box where they have 2003 running and have compared the two side
by side in said environment.

On my system, it's faster than VB 6 SP5.

Yes it does seem slow to me as well, but my main problem is that I can not
add a reference. I go to the project menu click add reference, select the
tab but then there are no little tick boxes next to the references to select
which one I want to add. The help on "how to: add and remove references"
talks about a select button but there is not one of those either. At that
point I gave up but since you have got it working I presume I am doing
something silly. Any help would be appreciated.

parameters, help online, etc, but nothing is working. My pc has 256 ram AMD

I think it's a RAM hungry beast - with 512 MB RAM, it seems to
run OK but other apps tend to get swapped out.

BTW, since the first VS.NET, 512 MB has been a required for systems
used with Microsoft courseware - and 256MB was the minimum for
doing any real work. So, you might want to consider a RAM upgrade.
