Sorry, Bob, the question is not clear me. Subject says you are wanting
to detect the presence. This suggests to me you want to know if the
service app is installed. But the body of your message says you want to
know if it is running.

I would aproach each of these differently, primarily to avoid probing
the question without throwing exceptions, which I like to reserve for
the truly unexpected.
