dotnet xml: I am new to XML and cannot figure out why XML will be so important in the future.

Any good resources on what benefits XML gives us would be appreciated.

I'm new too. But, to answer the question, I think it's simply a universal
way to send and receive structured data. It's becoming the de-facto 'middle
man' for data exchanging.
