visual studio .net documentation:
I tried to update my MSDN Library July 2003 collection by uninstalling
it first, then installing the October 2003 collection. This October
2003 collection was the single file download option from the MSDN
subscriber site.

The installation went fine (I enabled the VS.NET integration option),
but when I tried to fire up the collection, nothing appeared in the
Contents, Search or Index sections. The home page also showed up
blank. When I fired up VS.NET's Help, all the non-MSDN Library help
collections were there (e.g. the VSHIK help collection is visible, but
the MSDN Library collection wasn't there).

When I uninstalled the October 2003 collection and reinstalled the
July 2003 collection, I discovered that it ended up with the same
problem as the October 2003 collection -- no Contents, no Index, no
Search. However, entering a URL directly in the viewer did display
the right page (e.g. using "ms-help://MS.MSDNQTR.2003JUL.1033 ...").
Somehow, the installation of the latest library possibly caused this
problem.

Any ideas?

I tried this again using the separate CD installation of MSDN Library
(not DVD) and it worked.

This solution appears to repeat a situation we had with the april 2003 MSDN
Library. Some folks who loaded the April Library by means of an .IMG file
from the web had problems with the installation being faulty. Reinstalling
using CDs fixed the problem. And those who eschewed the web download and
instead installed with CDs did not have the problem.
