Persisting Language Filters

Persisting Language Filters Fred Chateau

visual studio .net documentation:
I find I spend an exorbitant amount of time selecting the C# language filter
while browsing help pages in VS.NET 2003.

Is there a way to permanently set the filter so that the default on any help
page is set to a specific language?

On a related subject, whenever I enter terms or phrases in the search pane,
they are missing the next time I open the IDE and attempt a new search. Is
this normal behavior or do I have a setup problem?

Hello Fred,

Thanks for your post. As I understand, the problem you are facing is
Dyanmic Help in VS .NET IDE does not persist the Filter. Please correct me
if there is any misunderstanding. I now share the following information
with you:

1. I am not able to reproduce the poblem on my VS .NET 2003. I performed
the following steps and it works properly:

a. Open VS .NET 2003 IDE, you can either open or do not open a project.
b. Choose "Help" -> "Dynamic Help".
c. Click "Search" button in "Dynamic Help" window, choose "Visual C#" in
the "Filtered by:" list.
d. Now I click "Contents" or "Index" button, they will be opened with
"Visual C#" filter.
e. I close and reopen VS .NET IDE, bring up "Dynamic Help" window again,
and Contents/Index/Search will be opened with "Visual C#" filter by default.

Did you notice the problem with the steps above? If not, could you please
tell me the detailed steps to reproduce the problem.

2. I suggest you to select the menu "Tools" -> "Add-in Manager", uncheck
all the Add-ins from Startup, restart Visual Studio .NET 2003 and check if
the problem still exists.

3. Please open "Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 Documentation" and see if
it has the same problem.

I look forward to hearing from you.

In my experience, if you have a project open in Visual Studio, the topic
filter will be set in accordance to the language of your open project.

You do not have a setup problem. Search terms do not persist between IDE
sessions.

I seem to have the same problem that Mr. Chateau encountered, and so
are two fellow programmers I checked with. I have VS 2003.Net, and
Msdn Lib. 04/2003.

I can't tell when exactly I first encountered this persistent filter
issue, but I know for sure that it used to work properly at some
point...I read all the postings above, and tried to repair the
documentation, but still nothing fixed the problem.

Thanks,
