Im not familiar with the Updater Application Block.

Is EIF already installed on the machine before you try to install an
application instrumented with EIF?

| Is it possible to install EIF with an application remotely using the
Updater Application Block?

You'll need to send down EIF and get that installed before you send down
the instrumented application.

Hopefully the Updater Application Block can send down and start up a msi on
a remote machine.
In the EIF's readme.htm there is a sample MSI command line to do a slient
install and how to install only certain parts (e.g. just the runtime bits
and not the samples).

The main EI.exe file is a self extracting exe, if you need the actual
EI.msi file then "EI.exe /?" should give you enough information on how to
extact the contents (i.e. EI.msi) without running the MSI.

Hopefully the Updater Application Block can handle deploying the
instrumented app and then say running a command script. As typcially you'll
want to run installutil on the instrumented app to register the event
sources (if you're using the log EventSink).

I should point out that Microsoft Support only supports EIF when its been
installed on the machine via the MSI.

Cheers

| Hi
Cheers for your reply.
The target machine will not have EIF installed and we are looking at using
Microsoft's Updater Application Block to send down the application (and
ideally EIF).
